Snippets - Bush/Dentist/Work/Loughborough(Lufbra)

I apologise for doing this but as it is the first time and something I want to experiement with to see how it 'works', we'll gow ith it. Basically, I have several topics noteworthy enough for their presence here but I don't have the impetus to write thoroughly on each of them so I will set them all in one blog under snippets:

George W Bush: If this man has not set out on a mission to get in every single blog on the Internet then it must be some kind of glorious publicity mistake that has propelled him to logstardom. I normally defend him because I think he tends to attract a lot of criticism that is unfounded. He isn't the most intelligent leader but he is very charismatic. He may not make the best decisions but he makes them boldly and inspires confidence in many of his subjects.

The latest revelation about God telling him to go to war is frankly laughable and one of the biggest gaffes I can remember. Consider the culturally diverse UK. After the attacks, all the attackers were shown to be of Islamic origin and commentators laboured the point that these were not religious acts. Thankfully, relatively little happened in terms of tensions. Then Bush goes and says that his part in it was religiously fuelled and our willingness to help suggests we agree with the views.

Me and My dentist: Went to the dentist yesterday and decided, more staunchly than ever before in my life that it's time for a change. I've had the same dentist since I was a child and so little seems to have changed in the relationship. I still feel as though I should be the shy schoolkid and he feels compelled to ask me how old I am and what I am doing. Fair enough, I hear you say but I broke the spell by breaking the pattern of our appointments and now seem to have wrecked the understanding. My crime?....

Dentist: "So your brother's in manchester right now?"
PS: "Yep"
(slight pause but just as dentist will retort saying, how's he getting on or what's he doing...)
PS (blurts out): "Think he's doing alright up there"
(silence of the likes that happen when someone says "Well. Fine")
(largely silent checkup)
(I go home)

Like I say, the bond is broken.

Work: Boring as hell. Really wondering what the point of me being here is. In my position, no-one knows when I have come in or when I have left other than two people at either end of the row who don't even know my name (except possibly through seeing printed copies of passports or fax receipts for time sheets). Worrying that I should lead with a point like that about dodging supervision but that's what it has gotten to.

I used to be keen. I did all the work that was handed me, paid attention to what was going on and worked out ways in which we could take it forwards that surely weren't expected of my role. In short, I was working really well. I assume this was the reason for them wanting to keep me for 4 months rather than the initially suggested 1-2.

However, since I was working pretty well, the work has dried up. Big time. In the last week, I think I have done about one, maybe two hours' decent work. At the same time, I'm still staying here for really long hours and racking them up on the time sheet which my supervisor still signs.

Loughborough: Going back to my spiritual home, the boro' where I went to unviersity, to meet up with some pals who are doing Masters courses or have dropped years. Going to be a bit weird but you know what you get generally there. Even though I fully acknowledge that it's time for me to shift over and let the next batch of youngsters in, I still hold fond memories of it and still feel just about young enough to have a good time in the Union ;)
